Dental Implants

Dental implants are the next best thing to healthy, natural teeth. Dental implants restore a missing tooth so that it looks and functions like a natural tooth when implanted. Other options such as dentures or bridges can lead to bone deterioration, and may interfere with eating, smiling, speaking and other activities of everyday life. Compared to dentures, bridges and crowns, dental implants are a popular and effective long-term solution for people who suffer from missing teeth or chronic dental problems. Because they fit, feel and function like natural teeth, dental implants are quickly becoming the new standard in tooth replacement.

If you’re self-conscious because you have missing teeth, wear dentures that are uncomfortable or don’t want to have good tooth structure removed to make a bridge, talk to us to see if dental implants are an option for you.  There is no need for you to stay home or feel embarrassed because your smile looks different.

Dental bridges are made from several different types of materials including gold, alloy, porcelain or a combination of them. We’ll work with you to decide what material will be most beneficial to you.

The ideal candidate for a dental implant is in good general and oral health. Adequate bone in your jaw is needed to support the implant, and the best candidates have healthy gum tissue that is free of periodontal disease.

However, implants are not an option for everyone. Chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and leukemia may slow healing after surgery. Implant treatment may not be a good option for patients with these illnesses. Tobacco use also can slow the healing process.

Three Parts to Dental Implants:

  1. The implant: A screw that serves as a root for your new teeth. This is what permanently attaches to your jaw.
  2. The abutment: A permanent, but removable by your doctor, connector that supports and holds a tooth or set of teeth.
  3. The crown (or prosthetic tooth): This is the part of the tooth that you can see. It’s usually made of zirconium or porcelain for durability and natural appearance.
